Chandigarh

Chandigarh has everything I love about a restaurant. A sister-brother owned business with a deeply rooted respect for their Indian culture and food. The room is filled with beautiful art and furniture. Everything was hand crafted in India, by a company in a small village, with links to their family. The furniture is inspired by Le Corbusier, a famous architect who worked on the city planning and governmental buildings in Chandigarh.

I didn’t know what to expect with an Indian brunch, but am I ever glad i went! The combination of spices, textures and flavors are so pleasing and surprising. Every bite is a delight for the senses. Chefs who know Indian food are, in my opinion, masters of textures and spices. It’s a fine balance of sweet, salty, sour and spicy and a though one to get right. But they got it right! The bhaturey bread was soft, crunchy and warm, such a delight! As was the creamy chaat, a mixture of potatoes, fried flat bread, dumplings and yogurt. And I must mention the sarson ka saag, a simply curry from mustard leaves and spinach.

Sunday is brunch day and every other service they make traditional thalis. I love a good thali! Little bowls filled with creamy curries, chutneys and relishes, spicy little pastes and fluffy warm breads. I’m certainly going back soon. A great place to share a meal with friends and family. A vegetarian and vegan must, just a few steps away from the Botanic concert hall and gardens.

Open from Tuesday to Saturday evenings, Saturday lunch and Sunday brunch.
