Meyboom
Meyboom is where you’ll find me on Wednesday lunch. As for many people, this secret little gem is a weekly favourite. A simple delicious spaghetti or croque monsieur can be just the thing when needing a little comfort food.
Meyboom is also a place of long dated history. The space was a cafe-bar in the 1950’s, but the current owner has mentioned finding original plans from the 1920’s which already showed the a cafe establishment.
The interior has stayed true to it’s history. When it was bought by Anthony Lorenzo’s parents in 1981, they decided to keep the 1950’s decor and it’s still the original woodwork. Continued in the early 80’s as a bar, Lorenzo’s mother slowly started making spaghetti for her patrons. Her recipes are still used today. You can feel the history in the walls and very quickly imagine yourself in another era.
Now run by Anthony Lorenzo, a former Union Saint-Gilloise football players, and his trusted chef de salle Valérie, you will immediately feel at home. A welcoming smile and quick service is what we all need on our lunch break.
I am a sucker for a family owned business and this one is rooted in nostalgic Brussels culture. A warm hug feeling we can all use.
Reservations are a good idea as they get quite busy at lunch time. They have plenty of space for groups, so a simple office lunch is absolutely possible.
Open from Monday to Friday from 11:45 to 14:30
