Beaucoup Belge
What i thought would be a simple lunch turned into a culinary discovery that is more than worth writing home about!
Beaucoup Belge is neighbors with the KVS theater and just across the street from it’s well known big brother Beaucoup Fish. If you are familiar with Beaucoup Fish, you already know the quality of their dishes and freshness of their products. Beaucoup Belge has the same high standards of quality and will satisfy any palette. The restaurant interior is beautiful, stunning really. The gorgeous wooden seating with it’s sexy curves is so eye pleasing and the high ceilings and design wall carpets do wonders for the acoustics. Owner Jordan Roberfroid has done it again with this place, the restaurant is gaining reputation day by day.
I had the chance to try a few dishes. First the salmon gravlax, beautifully cured with beetroot and Irish whiskey. The texture of the fish was very nice and i love the fact that it’s cut in thick slices. This was followed by a vitello tonnato, a perfectly executed veal roast sliced nice and thin, with it’s classic tuna fish sauce. The following dish made me so happy, i did what my boyfriend calls my “food happy dance”. The scallops! If only smell technology worked through the internet… This dish was divine! Scallops cooked just right, beurre blanc, pureed celeriac, spinach and shaved black truffle! My meal ended with the most tender pork cheeks, prepared in a Ename beer based stew. Served with a salad and of course the all important fries with mayonnaise.
I was so pleased to see that Beaucoup Belge goes much further than traditional Belgian food. Of course, a few classics can be found. But they go above and beyond all that and certainly have their place amongst the big boys in and around Place Ste-Catherine. Put this one on your short list of places to go! For now, reservations are appreciated, but not necessary. Beaucoup Belge! We want Beaucoup more!
Open from Tuesday to Friday for lunch and dinner.
