Montreal

Montreal, my hometown. I was born and raised there and it remains a big piece of me. If you’ve never been to Montreal, I can only describe it as somewhere between Brussels and East Berlin. Our french Canadian culture or metropolitan mix of nationalities defines us and is very apparent in our cuisine. Restaurants are abundant, you seems to cross one every few steps.

Schwartz’s Deli

Open every day from 8:00 to 23:00

Montreal is famous for it’s smoked meat and Schwartz is THE place for smoked meat in Montreal!
Schwartz, a Jewish delicatessen, established by Ruben Schwartz in 1928, still retains all of it’s history and cultural identity.

Their will probably be a line to get in, they don’t accept reservations. But it’s worth the wait. It’s usually pretty fast anyways. I recommend getting your smoked meat sandwich medium or medium-fat. Lean is too dry for me and fat is just too fat! Add a pickle, fries and if you’re hungry enough, coleslaw. Enjoy!

Babacool

Open every day from 17:00 to 23:00

On my last trip to Montreal in July of 2022, my daughter wanted to make me discover her favorite Middle eastern restaurant. Babacool in situated in the beautiful part of Old Montreal. A gorgeous and very airy setting greets you, as well warm smiles all around. The menu is filled with delicious dishes, designed to be shared, or not!
We had my daughter’s favorite here, the tuna crudo, which was fresh, full of textures and very generous. We also had lamb, muhamara and a delicious halloumi salad.
A great place to have a meal with friends and close to the centre of Montreal. A perfect area for an evening stroll around the port and to get lost in the historic streets.
