Karma Kitchen
There’s something about Indian cuisine that never ceases to amaze me. The bold, vibrant flavors, the rich aromas, and the warmth of each dish—it’s a sensory experience like no other. So, when I heard that Karma Kitchen, the latest venture by the folks behind Mission Masala, was opening in Brussels, I knew I had to share the news with all of you.
Set to open its doors this Friday at the Vieux Marché aux Grains, Karma Kitchen promises to be a game-changer for South Asian cuisine in the Belgian capital. After the resounding success of their first Brussels restaurant, Bombay BBQ, Pavan and Tim, the dynamic duo behind Mission Masala, are at it again—this time, with a new concept that dives even deeper into the diverse flavors of the Indian subcontinent, while also exploring influences from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, and Nepal.
The Buzz Behind Karma Kitchen
You may already know Mission Masala as the place to get your fix of bold Indian soul food in Antwerp and Ghent, but Karma Kitchen takes this a step further. With a fresh menu featuring main dishes and snacks (as opposed to the shared-plate style of their other restaurants), the culinary offerings here are designed to be both satisfying and surprising. Expect to see new South Asian flavors on the table, all crafted with the signature Mission Masala twist: hearty, colorful, and packed with flavor.
An Exciting Space for Foodies
Located between Dansaert and Sainte Catherine, Karma Kitchen is gearing up to be a hot spot for food lovers in Brussels. The space itself is impressive, with room for 90 diners inside and 60 more on the terrace. And for the first time, they’ll be open for lunch, giving you even more chances to indulge.
As much as I’m excited about the indoor seating, I’m even more intrigued by their menu. I’ve always loved how Mission Masala combines traditional Indian techniques with a fresh, urban edge, and it sounds like Karma Kitchen will be no different. The variety of influences—stretching from Nepal to Sri Lanka—means there’ll be something for everyone, whether you’re a fan of Indian street food or more refined, sit-down meals.
Mission Masala: From Antwerp to Brussels
If you’ve followed the journey of Mission Masala, you know that this isn’t their first rodeo. After launching their first restaurant in Antwerp back in 2018 and a second in Ghent in 2020, Pavan and Tim quickly became known for their modern take on Indian cuisine. Their Bombay BBQ in Flagey, which opened last year, was a runaway hit, even earning them the prestigious H!P of the Year award from Gault&Millau.
The pandemic, however, didn’t slow them down. In fact, it pushed them to innovate even further. During lockdown, they launched Curry Club, a ghost kitchen concept in Antwerp, and a temporary ghost kitchen in Brussels, introducing even more people to their mouth-watering Indian soul food. Now, with Karma Kitchen, they’re ready to take things up a notch.
Why Karma Kitchen Should Be on Your Radar
If you love bold, flavorful food and enjoy exploring new culinary territories, Karma Kitchen is set to deliver in spades. With their carefully curated menu, rich in influences from across South Asia, and a spacious, welcoming venue, this is bound to be one of the most exciting new openings in Brussels this year.
Mark your calendars for October 4—Karma Kitchen’s grand opening day—and get ready for a colorful, spice-filled journey through South Asian cuisine. Whether you dine in, take out, or have it delivered, one thing’s for sure: Karma Kitchen will leave you wanting more. I can’t wait to try it myself and bring you all the delicious details!
